Filing of a permit application
Prior to Initiating permits ALL requests need preliminary approval by Plan Commission.
New Permits will not be issued after 3:30 p.m.
All Contractors/Sub-Contractors must be listed and registered in LaGrange County BEFORE permit is issued.
1) Obtain an Improvement Location Permit. Applications are available at the County Office Building 114 W. Michigan St, LaGrange, IN 46761.

2) After obtaining a permit from Planning and Zoning, you may need to proceed with the following:
Excluded structures as follows: A structure without water including Barn, House Addition, Garage or Storage Structure.
Obtain your septic permit (if required) from the County Health Department 304 North Townline Road, LaGrange, In. Go West on Michigan St until the end at Townline Rd. turn right one block to 304.

-On a county road - Permit will be issued by the Building Department.
-On a state road-Contact State Highway Dept Monday, Wednesday & Friday 574-294-3143 x232 (Eleachea Sanders) for instruction on getting a permit.
Obtain your LaGrange County Sewer District sign off letter from their office at 116 E. Wayne St in LaGrange.

Adams Lake Sewer Dist. 260-982-2252 (only if running water)
Steuben Lakes Reg. Waste Dist. (Wall Lake) 260-665-9865 (all construction)
If you are in an incorporated town you must contact your local town hall to be scheduled for their next available meeting for approval.
SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT
You must visit the Soil & Water district for:
- Manure Management Plan
- Rule 5 Erosion Control Plan if you are disturbing an acre of land or more.
Their office is located at 910 S. Detroit St (SR9) LaGrange, In. return to traffic light, turn right go thru 2nd traffic light and proceed south on SR 9. Office is on your right. 260-463-3471
Return to the Building Department with the applicable permits listed above to receive your Building Permit.
SITE PLAN REQUIRMENTS
Must be drawn “to scale” on letter or legal size paper using a ruler and showing the following:
-Road or Highway
-Label existing or proposed driveway
-Show & Label all existing structure(s) and proposed structure(s)
-Actual distances in feet from proposed structure(s) to ALL property lines
-Show measurements in feet on proposed structure(s)
